North Carolina State Road #1904 in Duplin County is named for Henry Moore Middleton, Sr. (1879-1959). The road connects to Hwy 24/50 between Warsaw and Kenansville at one end and crosses Claude Scott Road and continues for a short distance beyond at the other end. The road sign above is located on Hwy 24/50 across the road from where Henry Middleton Rd. joins Hwy 24/50. If one is traveling on Hwy 24/50 from Warsaw toward Kenansville, one will pass Groove Creek Ave. and Groove Creek subdivision on the left. The next road on the right is Henry Middleton Rd.
Henry Middleton, Sr. developed it as a dirt road running across his farm, giving him more direct access to Hwy 24/50 from his house, which was then at the corner of this new road and Claude Scott Road (the house faced this new road). He maintained the road himself for a number of years before turning it over to the county for the county to maintain and eventually to pave. The farm was sold after his and his second wife's deaths; the house was eventually torn down; and the road now is the roadway for individual houses along its length.
